Background
Sophia House is a project of Credo Foundation for Justice, a registered non-profit organization affiliated to the Holy Faith Sisters. Sophia House was opened in 2004.
Our Belief
At Credo Sophia House each child is recognized and treated as a unique person and every effort is made to try to meet her particular needs.
In all matters related to children, the child’s best interest is a primary consideration.

Scope and Purpose
Sophia House caters young women from ages eleven to seventeen. They are provided with a place of safety as well as developmental and remedial opportunities. Counseling is offered to the girls individually and with their families.
Empowerment is offered in the following areas:
- Anger Assessment and Management
- Building Self-Concept and Self-Esteem
- Communication
- Decision-making and Consequences
- Handling Conflict
- Health and Healthy Practices – Physical Mental and Spiritual
- Self-Awareness
- Social Graces and Social Skills
Skills training at Sophia House
Programme Objectives
- To offer temporary, emergency accommodation
- To facilitate the education, training and development of young girls at risk
- To empower the family and to facilitate family reintegration where possible
- To create awareness of social injustices against children
We do this in collaboration with other like-minded agencies and individuals.
SOPHIA
Sophia is Greek for Wisdom, Scripture tells us
Sophia is the Wisdom of God who helps us to see
things as God sees them.
She makes us friends of God.
She is our comfort in times of care and sorrow, and
She strengthens, heals and wakens mighty hope.
She inspires human creativity and joy.
Here is the power of people-making among those diminished by pain
Who do not know their own dignity. She guides our undertakings
And is the Spirit of God directly present and active in our world.

When every child is a child of love,
Born free in a just world;
When every child is a child of hope,
Whose dreams like wings unfurl;
When every child is a child of peace,
In a home where violence is no more;
When every child is a child of joy,
Whose songs like eagles, soar!
When every child is a child of light,
Whose eyes shine in the night so sweet;
When every child is s a child the world lifts up,
Then the mission will be complete!
